The organizing committees of the West African Aedes Surveillance Network and Instituto Nacional de Saúde Pública are delighted to announce the selection of trainee participants for the upcoming Training Workshop on Molecular Detection of Insecticide Resistance Markers in Aedes aegypti, scheduled to take place from 15th – 16th June, 2026 in Praia, ahead of the International Conference on Arboviruses.
This specialized workshop forms part of the broader scientific activities leading into the International Conference on Arboviruses and is aimed at strengthening technical capacity in molecular surveillance and vector control research across Africa.
The training workshop will provide participants with hands-on practical experience and theoretical knowledge in the molecular detection of insecticide resistance markers in Aedes aegypti, one of the primary vectors responsible for the transmission of arboviral diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya, and Zika virus.
Participants were selected following a competitive application and review process based on academic merit, research interests, professional background, and demonstrated commitment to vector surveillance and arbovirus research. The selected trainees represent a diverse network of young scientists, researchers, laboratory professionals, and public health practitioners from various countries across Africa.
During the two-day intensive workshop, participants will:
– Gain practical laboratory training in molecular techniques used for detecting insecticide resistance markers
– Learn advanced approaches in vector surveillance and resistance monitoring\n- Interact with leading scientists and experts in arbovirology and vector biology
– Strengthen regional collaborations and scientific networking opportunities\n- Enhance their technical skills for improved vector control interventions and public health response
The workshop underscores the commitment of West African Aedes Surveillance Network and Instituto Nacional de Saúde Pública to building sustainable scientific capacity and advancing collaborative research efforts to combat arboviral diseases within the West African region and beyond.
